The ICN eHealth Bulletin provides updates on various ICN partnerships. This issue we highlight a commercial partnership with a software company – ALERT® Life Sciences Computing.

ALERT® was established in 1999 and is committed to an all-encompassing software solution for computerisation of healthcare. ALERT® focuses on the development, distribution and implementation of ALERT® clinical software for the electronic health record. ALERT® targets the international market place and is deployed in both the public and private sectors in 13 countries. ALERT® can be implemented in all types of clinical settings and includes applications for nursing documentation. ALERT®’s software is compliant with international standards, including terminology standards. The International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP) is one of the terminologies used in ALERT®. Data collected in the ALERT® electronic health record is stored in a format that can be aggregated and retrieved to support reporting and quality improvement.

In October 2013, ALERT® Demonstration Specialists provided ICN eHealth team members with a demonstration of their software application for nursing. This demonstration provided the opportunity for ALERT® and ICN staff to discuss ideas for ongoing collaboration. ALERT® aims to continue to support international and national clinical protocols, guidelines and pathways to assist nurses in providing safe and high quality care. Moreover, ALERT® personnel are eager to join with national nurses associations, health ministries, researchers, private industry, and others aiming to improve the health of individuals, families and communities wherever nurses deliver care.
